BSE F&O tax filing.
BSE F&O has grown with index contracts such as SENSEX derivatives. For income-tax purposes, the exchange label changes the contract source, not the tax head: exchange-traded F&O is still business income and belongs in ITR-3.
Income classification
s.43(5)BSE futures and options are exchange-traded derivatives. They are generally reported as non-speculative business income under the s.43(5) carve-out.
Turnover method
ICAI GN 2025Compute turnover using the same ICAI derivatives method used for NSE F&O. Do not use index contract notional value, premium paid, or margin blocked as turnover by itself.
Do not use notional value
F&O turnover is not margin, premium paid, or full contract value. Reconcile broker reports against the ICAI method before deciding audit applicability.
Audit applicability
s.44ABIf you trade both NSE and BSE contracts, combine them. A separate BSE-only P&L does not mean separate audit-threshold testing.
Use the audit checker after aggregating all brokers and all derivative segments.
Expenses
Schedule BPDeduct broker charges, STT, exchange charges, SEBI fees, stamp duty, GST, and other trading-related expenses supported by the broker ledger.
BSE F&O gotchas
Before filingSENSEX contracts still go to business income
Index name does not change the income head. BSE index options and futures remain F&O business income for most retail traders.
Cross-exchange positions need aggregation
A broker may show NSE and BSE in separate sheets. Your ITR-3 should aggregate both under the business head.
Option premium treatment matters from AY 2026-27
If your BSE option report does not include option-sale premium under GN 2025 logic, adjust the turnover working.
